I see a lot of Nutters playing different games and trust (Yes I know it sounds stupid) there opinion on what a game is like rather than the makers. Just an idea that may help folk if it don't happen bin it.

If you like cooperative games, I could recommend Guns of Icarus online. I've played it these last weeks on my brother's account and plan on purchasing it myself

What is it ?

In a nutshell, steampunk flying pirate ship to ship battle. Each ship has a crew of 4, with one captain who choses the ship + weapon layout. You have 3 classes to choose from, each of which can carry specific items to help them in their tasks.
The game is focused on crew teamwork and ship-to-ship combat, and hence there is no boarding (which is actually a good thing).
You have a lobby system, but waiting times aren't absurdly long.

GoIO isn't spec hungry, and it works well on Vista, despite the min requirement indication of Win7 (it's just that you're on your own if there's a bug, as Vista isn't supported).

So after some time here are some pros, mids and cons:

+Enough players
+VERY Teamwork orientated
+Good variety in weaponry
+Balanced
+Visually pleasing
+Good work on the music/sounds
+No lag caused by sloppy coding
+++ More content is on the way : more ships, Adventure gamemode,....

~ All ships have a crew of 4, no more, no less, for now.
~ Campaign mode still in Kickstarter

-In game chat is not incredible imo; Mumble/Teamspeak/Ventrilo are much more practical if you are used to them.
-Skirmish maps seem huge, but are in fact rather small once you get to know them; I would have preferred bigger maps with more ships personnally. Only 1 4v4 map as of today. Others are 2v2 and 3v3.

If you want to play a really good single player game you should try out Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Night. They have amazingly good gameplay. It's about the future and located in Russias metro :) Action and Horror/Thriller combined. <3

Guns of icarus sounds fun but im confused as to why you say its a good thing boarding isnt a part of it, surely boarding in the skies would be great fun! Good shout Em, havent played last light yet annoyingly but the first was great fun, if that tickles fancy the stalker series ought to get a mention, ive recently started the third, loved the other too after installing the 'complete' mod, apparently the second was unplayable without the mod. Metro for on the rails, stalker a bit more free flow. I could have sworn someone mentioned don't starve, thats great fun.
Oh and the only two recommendations I wrote were for achievements too

I am waiting for Elite Dangerous to come out.
meant to be sometime in 2014.

there have been many pretenders to the throne , some have come close to the 8 bit acorn bbc b version.

It had vector graphics and shit sound etc but in some way it was totally immersive.
Modern games have lost that somehow.

I believe they can reproduce the feel of the game while using awesome gfx and multiplayer.
In the old days no one had a 56k modem.

Incidentally most of your mobile devices run Acorn or "ARM" CPUs
Acorn research machines.

It's going to be amazing.

I like how Frontier developments is doing it in house.

They have not sold out to a big software company. It's ready when its ready no deadline but there will be additions to the game later. Because now we have the internet. before we did not..

apart from shitty slow modems that mum got upset about because she could no longer gossip!

9600 baud rate, lol. 14440 , oooh
56K bits per second what a dream.
Kids don't even know what a baud rate is....
RS232 ?

I suppose I am showing my age.

:)
x

Shut it Sponge you old bastard. You know what I mean.

Untill you can no longer hold a glass without spilling. This is the quaffing hysteresis point where the beer intake is reduced to match the alcohol handling capacity of the imbibing entity.
