I don't understand how come there are nutters that don't like payload maps.
They are like lazytown with a mobile point 3. You either push hard or try hard to stop the push.
Of course they only work with fast-respawn servers.

I always wanted to see a new gamemode where there is only one cart which starts in the middle of the map but both teams can push it either way and make it explode in the enemy base. That would be awesome (and very long to play)

Me too, we┬┤ve tried it once on the #07 server but quit before everybody got a chanse to get a hang of it.
We should give it a new try next time there is a open map night.

Payload maps just totally suck, I can't name one single payload map that I like. In fact it's worse than that, I utterly detest them! Worse still, I use a Valve variable that enables me to speed-up the respawn times whilst not making them instant respawn. You'll notice this on lazy_f and lazy_rc1, there's a delay but it's only a few seconds or so. Instant respawn can be a bit much on many maps and I understand the reasons why there's this 'delay' built in but I can at least tweak that delay so that it's not too noticeable but still not instant.

Well, Valve in their infinite wisdom have disabled that particular cvar on pl maps. The result is respawn times of anything upto 20 seconds. My only solution is either instant respawn or using a 3rd party mod to tweak the times, neither of which is ideal. I've no idea why they did this as the faster (but not instant) respawns work well and are balanced based on the Valve variables where teams get rewarded or penalised depending on how well they are doing.

Anyway, I hate pl maps. :( I've tried them and better tried them but just hate them. Sorry. :(
